Why Choose Counselling?

Life is challenging at the best of times. Most of us have areas of our life we would like to change or improve. I believe that all people have an innate ability to change themselves, and their situations, with willingness; commitment and the counselling support to do so. I have confidence in every person’s ability to solve problems and resolve issues. I believe in empowering people to find their own inner strength and resources to move forward. Clients, with guidance and support, can find their expertise within themselves.

I provide counselling for individuals, couples and families. The focus of the counselling is to improve the quality of people’s lives. My goal is to align myself with my client’s goals and to help facilitate the achievement of them.

My Approach

Counselling is a private, confidential process geared to your own pace. I work together with you and yours, to determine where to begin and how to move forward. This is a strength-based approach. I believe in a holistic approach that may include a referral (if the client is interested) to other professionals and/or appropriate community resources. Both short and long-term counseling is offered to address each client’s concerns/needs. I believe that counseling is a partnership based on a relationship/partnership between two people rather than a client/expert relationship.

Excellent Counselling Services

Clinical Counselling Experience

I have over 20 years of counselling experience with individual, couples and families. I have a client-centered focus. It is an eclectic approach based on years of experience counselling clients from all walks of life and social strata.

I have worked in in-patient health care systems, outpatient clinics and in the community. I am the recipient of an award for Excellence in Social Work. I have taught and supervised Social Work students for the University of Toronto Masters of Social Work program. I have taught medical students about Social Work and mentored young people in the pursuit of this profession, also through U of T. I am currently a volunteer mentor for an International Social Worker who is attempting to find employment in Canada.

A former teacher as well, I have taught high school and worked as a guidance counsellor. One of my specialties during this time was parent education. This also involved supervising students at an in-house Day Care I have run psycho-educational groups for parents of young children and adolescents. I am founder of a very successful co-op day care in Bloor West Village.

In addition to my private practice, I provide Employment Assistance Counseling (EAP) for several EAP providers. My commitment to my profession is demonstrated by my continuing part-time counselling practice as a Social Worker in health care. I have a consummate knowledge of community resources and services. I continue to participate in professional development through independent reading of Best Practices counselling literature and the attendance of workshops. I am member in good standing of both the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and the Ontario Association of Social Workers.
